ART DECO WEDDING CAKE
The layouts on this cake hark back to another time—when sandals were music was for dancing, and jewelry took a jump to the near future. But you do not need to know your Art Deco from your Art Nouveau to admire its geometric fashion. Covered in piped dots of frosting buttercream, and cut-fondant plaques coated with sanding sugar, it's just plain pretty, irrespective of the method that you slice it.
OMBRE WEDDING CAKE
Wendy Kromer- Schell and Caitlin Brown hid blood orange and passion-fruit curds in tinted vanilla poundcake because of this buttercream-dotted confection. Bake yours a bit larger than desired so that browned edges may be trimmed off, showing the lively ombre layout underneath.
FRENCH AND IKAT SILK RIBBON WEDDING CAKE
The spirit of a century-old French silk ribbon might be felt in every morsel of this darling cake. On top rests a remarkable bow of molded gum paste (so realistic, you'll be tempted to untie it). Then we painted mixed with lemon extract onto the fondant in a rose pattern that evokes the blurry quality of an ikat weave to edible luster dust.
WHITE-CHOCOLATE PANELED WEDDING CAKE
Architectural though familiar, our white-chocolate panel cake demands neither culinary gifts nor design skills (other than those you learned in preschool). Only order a buttercream cake from a pack of chocolate panels from chocolatier Christopher Norman and a neighborhood bakery. The remainder is a cakewalk: fill the ledges with golden raspberries or a different fruit, and Stick panels of varying heights onto the tiers.
DUTCH GOLDEN AGE WEDDING CAKE
Inspired by the hyper- naturalistic botanic still-life paintings of Dutch artist Rachel Ruysch, circa 1685 to 1750, more than one guest will do a double take at the sight of the cake, which resembles a verdant floral centerpiece. Custom-made sugar flowers, created by Amy DeGiulio of Sugar Flower Cake Shop in Nyc, were put in a bed of chocolate-fondant-covered cake, that has been place in a big gold urn. Fill the cake's layers with rosewater buttercream to call out it is blooming adornments.
ROSE-PIPED WEDDING CAKE
This joyful rose confection may seem couture, but just about anyone is capable of re-creating it. Focus on a basic fondant cake from a bakery. Print out our template of roses that are subjective, place parchment paper over it, and delineate using a piping bag of royal icing. After dry, peel the paper from the roses that are piped, and adhere the layouts to the cake using glue paste that's been mixed with hot water.
A WEDDING CAKE WITH DISTINCT STRIPES
Here, we put the idea of icing on ice, relying instead on unadorned pale layers for graphic appeal. Coconut pound cake, tinted with gel-paste food coloring, functions as the foundation, while white fondant and passionfruit curd rests on top (the curd is also between each layer).
SPRING WEDDING CAKE
Springerle molds are what make this cake (an orange-chiffon confection full of mascarpone) great. Despite the fact that the exceptional purple tint and springtime characters (bunnies, birds, and blooms) aren't too shabby, either.
HEART WEDDING CAKE
Long ago, the heart was considered to function as source of most human emotions. Though modern science demonstrates otherwise, the phrase "giving your heart" continues to be the best approach to express that you simply had sacrifice anything for the one you adore. Jay Qualls of the Tennessee-based Maples Wedding Cakes printed our designs on paper, covered them traced them with royal icing, then transferred them.
MINIATURE CHOCOLATE-COVERED WEDDING CAKES
Fancy: Yes. To make these miniature chocolate-covered desserts, we poured a glaze over each cake and piped on lines—and, in the case of the cake in the centre, circles—of melted white chocolate. (Perch the cakes on a wire stand so excessive glaze does not pool.) Afterward we lightly pulled a toothpick through the lines to create the designs.
POTTED PLANT WEDDING CAKE
Contributing editor Jason Schreiber made this herb-adorned cake, which features oregano, fennel and cilantro flowers, bachelor's buttons, sweet alyssums, pea shoots, and micro marigolds. Swiss meringue buttercream's tacky feel kept the edible flowers (purchase your own at gourmetsweetbotanicals.com) in place.
RED, WHITE, AND BLUE WEDDING CAKE
This Lafayette Grand Cafe & Bakery fromage blanc cheesecake has six tiers of berry-adorned good. The layers are flavored with black pepper, lemon zest, and vanilla bean, and sit atop an all-natural cornmeal crust.
WHITE ROSE WEDDING CAKE
This bloom's reputation as the most authoritative love symbol in nature comes in the Greeks, who used the flower to represent the goddess Venus. White roses, specifically, have come to symbolize purity, unity, and love that was true —as opposed to red roses' organization with passion—which has earned them the status of Ultimate Wedding Flower. Here, New York City cake guru Sylvia Weinstock blanketed three layers of cake in handmade, edible sugar petals to gently hark back to the design of a French croquembouche—and produce a temple to Cupid's favorite flower.
CRUSHED-SWEET WEDDING CAKE
As fun to make as it will be to eat, our dazzling marmalade-sweet cake takes a small muscle—and that's about it. Then press the glittering pieces that are crushed to the sides of a buttercream cake.
WEDDING PETIT FOURS
Soaked in honey glaze, and brown sugar, butter, these geometric minis - Caitlin and Schell Brown resemble honeycombs. We topped them off with a serving of candied kumquats and whipped cream.
EMBROIDERED LACE AND APPLIQUED WEDDING CAKE
Sugar paste was pressed into each form, then applied in layers to the fondant. The ensuing ivory tower is one that both generations— yours and your mommy's —will adore.
CHOCOLATE STOUT WEDDING CAKE
Each layer of this chocolate naked cake by Wendy Kromer- Caitlin Brown and Schell topped with candied pecans, drizzled with chocolate and caramel ganache, and is full of buttercream. Meanwhile, the specific cake includes butter, yogurt, and stout (customize yours with your favorite brew), making each bite decadently damp.
TEARDROP WEDDING CAKE
Give your cake a dash of whimsy. Purchase up a fondant cake, along with a pail of fondant, from a bakery. Add roll out into a thin sheet, and food coloring to get the proper colors.
JAPANESE SPONGE WEDDING CAKE
The fill is lemon-ginger mousse, along with the designs could be customized (wedding crest or monogram, anyone?).
